The Australian Lord Safe Company – Part II

Lord realized the threat of fire to homes and businesses and the need to protect documentation so their fire resisting record protection safes where specifically manufactured to provide a high level of fire protection from fire, heat, smoke and moisture and they were produced in many different sizes and offered various levels of fire resistance periods such as 60 minutes fire resistance, 90 minutes and 120 minutes to follow some of the lord record protection cabinet safe models produced. Lord record protection fire resistant safes 006, 070, 080, 110, 120, 130, 200 & 300, and the models come in single or double door versions. The earlier models produced were identified as follows: RS775, RS0780, RS200, RD16, RD17 & RD18. These Lord fire resistant safes typically had a body and door enclosed with specially formulated fire resistant materials and had been certified and rated by test facilities such as Koren Standards Association (KSA) or Swedish National Testing & Research Institute (SP) and Class 350 Underwriters Laboratories (UL).

Lord Fire Resistant fire rated filing cabinets supplied three versions in this range, being either a two, three and four draw fire resistant filing cabinet model for the protection of paper documents but over the years many versions and models changed. For example, there was the Lord RF series, 22 & 25 series, 31 series all in two or four drawer versions. The 22 series was locked by a medeco high security lock on the top drawer and the majority of all the Lord fire rated filing cabinets had a 1 hour fire protection under the rating of UL Class 350 – 1hour fire endurance and impact test certified to VDMA S60P (European standards).

Lord Gold series safes were manufactured as high security  TDR ( Torch & Drill Resistant) safe for commercial use and all models in this range such as the Lord Gold series cash safes models 60, 80, 150 & 200 had a cash rating at the time of manufacturing of $60K. The models had many cosmetic and dimension changes over the years but the quality was always maintained. Some of the models include Lord Gold Series G1, G2, G3, G4 & G5. The Australian Lord safe company without a doubt manufactured some of the world’s highest quality and highest security level safes ever made they are still recognised in the safe industry to this day as some of Australian most formidable safes ever made. How can any Australian safe expert ever forget such magnificent safes such as the Lord 90 series, a AA (Anti – Arc ) safe produced in models 902, 903, 904, 905, 906 & 906ED the Lord 90 series stands at the very top of the Lord safe range the Anti -Arc means that the safe is designed to resist all known forms of professional attack including methods using oxy – arc, oxy acetylene, powder cutting and an assortment of other criminal tools or instruments.

The Lord 90 series of safes  is also manufactured in a TDR (Torch & Drill resistant) version and a EDF (Explosive, Drill and Force Resistant) version in all the same models as the Anti – Arc version. They also produced a Lord 90 series strongroom doors which was known as model Lord 90 series SRD90 Strongroom door and were manufactured in in five version being the GI- AA (Anti -Arc )model which has a overall door thickness of 190mm containing a solid core of Lord high strength poured anti -arc alloy. The Lord 90 series G2 – TDR(Torch & Drill Resistant ) the construction of the 90 series  G2 TDR strongroom door is similar as the anti – arc version only the barrier material is different the G2 Strongroom door has two combined barrier materials being Anti-Arc(AA) and TDR (Torch & Drill Resistant), whilst the SRD 90 strongroom door is a full  (AA) Anti – Arc door. Then there is the Lord 90 series G3 & G4 TDR (Torch & Drill Resistant ) strongroom doors. These doors are torch and drill resistant constructed, and the only difference between the G3 and G4 is the G3 has one four wheel combination dial and the G4 has two four wheel combination dials. The last Lord strongroom doors in the Lord 90 series is the G5 Explosive, Drill and Force (EDF) Resistant. This door is constructed of a solid core of lord high density refractory material encased between press formed heavy steel plates.

A small bit of history on the first lord strongroom door – it was call William Lord Pty Ltd commercial strongroom door. It provided fire protection and featured hardened anti drill plates, re locking devices, internal emergency release mechanism and solid stainless steel locking bolts there was two models produced a CS1 & CS2 both constructed of 9mm thick steel plate and locked by either six lever key lock or combination lock. Other Lord Safe company strongroom doors were the Lord strongroom doors being SRD 80 strongroom door, 7000 strongroom door series, SRD Nugget strongroom door, Gold Series strongroom door, Platinum series strongroom doors and the Bankers series strongroom doors. Lord also manufactured an Armoury strongroom door called Lord Armoury strongroom door SRD-90MK11. It was pressed formed and arc welded to enclose and integrated 90mm thick barrier of milliard and high strength composite material. The SRD-90 MK 11 was resistant to oxygen gas cutting, explosives, core drilling and high speed drill and grinders. The lord strongroom door had 38mm diameter bolt work and glass relockers along with deadlocking re-lockers at multi points attached to the boltwork. They also had a strongroom door model SQD, this Lord door came in one version it had an overall door thickness of 170mm made up of 25mm door plate of armoured barrier material. The SQD strongroom door has a fire resistant full length panel covering the back of the door. The relocking mechanism was mounted behind the lord glass section designed to activate and deadlock the boltwork if the mechanism is attacked. An additional locking point is armed to activate on heat. The thermal relocking point is an additional security measure to guard against oxy – acetylene cutting or other heat cutting equipment.
